Heavy steel I-beams are set onto substantial 4" * 6" concrete padstones on the inner leaf only.


In this construction, each beam will support one leaf of a cavity wall.


In the picture on the left, the first beam for a block and beam balcony floor can be seen.








The welder delivered the beams to site, helped get them into position and then welded straps across the two beams to keep the width for the cavity, and welded 2 sets of beams together.

On the left, steel uprights have been fixed to the inner leaf with bolts set into an epoxy resin (see photo at bottom right of page) and the roff will be support on timbers bolted to the verticl plates at the top of the supports.
