It is worth comparing the costs of volumetric mixed concrete, which is prepared on-site, and readymix prepared off-site. The advantages of volumetric is that it is prepared as it is poured and so the exact amount can be determined during the process. This may well save money where (even if you have done your sums well but hedge on overprovision rather than under provision) you have bought too much readymix - expensive. As well as expensive, you have the problem of where to put the surplus.

The company we use in the South of Wales puts the advantages well on its own web site

The volumetric mixing lorry isn't small so, if need to be sited on the road, you will need to arrange with neighbours beforehand.

The companies will often allow you to barrow concrete onto site although they usually only have a set, limited time on site. The volume here dictated that a pumping lorry be used, owned by the same company. The total time to pump was about 30 minutes, the operator periodically turning the flow off to allow us to screed the concrete to the required level.

In the photo below can be seen the pipe along which the mix is pumped.
