This picture gallery shows the preparation of the finished floor by the use of particle board sheets supported on 2" by 2" timber battens.

When preparing for a kitchen, bathroom or any room that will be tiled, use plywood instead. The use of particle board underneath tiles may lead to them cracking.

The photo above shows the use of plastic packers to ensure that the battens in the kitchen and utility room are extremely level.

When laying the floorboard sheets, leave 10mm around the edge for expansion. A nail gun is very useful - making the job easier and much faster.
